"Victims and supporters, who had hoped that North Carolina would be the first of 32 states that practiced eugenics to pay its victims, were angry." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/21/us/north-carolina-eugenics-compensation-program-shelved.htmlBeth Kanellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08108922407270772577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6836232158588777465.post-90194199502510276382012-02-07T08:34:34.490-05:002012-02-07T08:34:34.490-05:00Very interesting post. A reminder for classroom use: Candlewick Books will provide a free "desk copy" for any teacher planning to use The Darkness Under the Water with students. We live in an era when we desperately need to "see" the flaws of eugenics programs. They happen far too often.Beth Kanellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08108922407270772577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6836232158588777465.post-43561896302464638572012-02-05T16:51:03.619-05:002012-02-05T16:51:03.619-05:00The eugenics programs that this country participat...The eugenics programs that this country participated in are difficult to understand from this point in our timeline. We are just now beginning to see the ramifications of these programs. And, legislature and victim's compensation are just starting to have a voice. It is a moving story which I highly recommend.MamaMindenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05498074707327738421noreply@blogger.com
